The Veterans Affairs Administration was founded in 1930, although veterans benefits have been provided in some form since the Revolutionary War. The VA employs roughly 345,000 people with a budget somewhere north of 150 billion.

The current secretary is Robert A. McDonald, appointed in 2014. Current undersecretary of health at the VA, David Shulkin, has been indicated as the new administration's appointee, awaiting formal nomination.
